The Best Nut Butter Smoothie Recipes You Need to Try

Just because you are cutting carbs, that does not mean that you have to cut the fun foods out of your diet. Smoothies are a great way to pack in nutrition and switch up the flavor combinations for goodness on the go.

Are you tired of your same old smoothie recipes? Why not check out some of these nut butter smoothie recipes for something new!

High Protein Low Carb All Good

Depending on the thickness that you prefer your smoothies to be, it is usually best to use frozen ingredients when possible. This trick also helps to keep the smoothie colder longer.

The great thing about smoothies is that you can follow a recipe closely, or you can add or take away ingredients to suit your taste buds and nutritional needs. You can also adjust the amount of each ingredient to make a larger or small smoothie so that you can share or make extra to freeze some for later.

Key Lime Smoothie

Are you ready for a tropical vacation in a glass? There is nothing quite like a slice of key lime pie to transport you to white sandy beaches surrounded by palm trees and warm breezes.

  • 1 tbsp Lime Juice
  • 2 tbsp Cream Cheese
  • 1/2 cup Granny Smith Apple (Diced and Frozen)
  • 1/4 cup Pineapple (Diced and Frozen)
  • 2 tbsp Key Lime Cheesecake Almond Butter
  • 1 tbsp Coconut Milk
  • 1 cup Coconut Water

Espresso Yourself

This one is for all the coffee lovers out there. Have you ever had nuts and coffee together?

There are flavored coffee beans on the shelves that sell well, but those can be quite artificial tasting. The same goes for flavor syrups and sauces that you can add to coffee.

When you use a natural nut butter with coffee it makes for a much better match. You may not ever be able to go back to artificial nut flavors in your coffee again.

Since most coffee has roasted nutty tones, it often pairs very well with nuts of all types. Almonds, cashews, and peanuts bring out the nut tones in the coffee and the coffee enhances the roasted nut flavor.

  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened Cacao Nibs
  • 1/2 cup Cashews
  • 1/2 cup Frozen Avocado
  • 2 tbsp Cashew Butter
  • 1 cup Dark Roast Coffee or Chilled Espresso

Going Bananas for Peanut Butter

Banana is a classic combination, so it is no wonder that it makes for a winning smoothie flavor. Bananas will make a thick smoothie and when frozen bananas are used it will be a very smooth and pleasant texture.

Freezing bananas are a great way to save your bananas from going from yellow to brown. Slice or dice ripe bananas and freeze them on wax paper, then transfer them to a sealed bag or airtight container to prevent freezer burn.

  • 3/4 cup Frozen Banana
  • 2 tbsp Peanut Butter
  • 1 cup Almond Milk

Cashew Cheesecake

When we are dieting some things we miss most are desserts. A slice of classic cheesecake can be the decadent thing that gives us pleasure as well as soothing our sweet tooth craving, and now you can have that in a healthy smoothie.

  • 1/2 cup Frozen Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 2 tbsp Cream Cheese
  • 2 tbsp Cashew Butter
  • 1/2 Graham Cracker
  • 1/2 tsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 cup Water or Coconut Water
  • Berries (optional)

Apples & Almonds

Apples and nut butter are an after-school snack that has carried over to be a diet staple. Going for a less sweet apple will cut some of the sugar and allow you to indulge yourself with this smoothie.

  • 1 Granny Smith Apple (Diced and Frozen)
  • 1 tbsp Chia Seeds
  • 2 tbsp Almond Butter
  • 1 packet Natural Sweetener
  • 1 cup Water
  • Splash of Apple Juice

A Berry Good Smoothie

Berries are packed with antioxidants and so flavorful that you don't need many to pack a punch. This smoothie can go well with any berries that are seasonal or local, or whatever you have on hand.

  • 1/2 cup Frozen Berries
  • 1/2 cup Spinach (frozen or fresh)
  • 1/4 cup Shredded Carrot
  • 2 tbsp Nut Butter
  • 1 cup Water or Coconut Water

Orange You Glad Went Golden?

Have you ever had a smoothie that made you feel as if you were glowing? This golden smoothie will give you energy, nutrition, mental clarity, and a day glow that everyone will notice.

  • 1/4 cup Frozen Banana
  • 1/4 cup Frozen Berries
  • 2 tbsp Cashew Butter
  • 1 cup Coconut Water

Not Your Average Green Smoothie

Green smoothies are not always our first pick when choosing a smoothie flavor. This one, however, is a winner for texture AND flavor, as well as nutritional value.

  • 1/4 cup Frozen Kale
  • 1/4 cup Frozen Spinach
  • 1/4 cup Frozen Avocado
  • 2 tbsp Cashew Butter
  • 1 cup Coconut Water

Smoothie Bowl

Are you looking to switch up your smoothie routine? Besides trying out these new flavor combinations how about making a smoothie bowl, instead of pouring it into a glass a drinking it?

Take any of these recipes and either reduce the amount of liquid that you use or add in more frozen ingredients to make a thicker smoothie. Spoon it into a pretty bowl and add toppings such as hemp hearts, chia seeds, unsweetened coconut flakes, sliced fruit, and melted nut butter can be drizzled on top to finish!
